After years away from home, retired Navy Admiral Arthur decides to return quietly and surprise his sister Eleanor, a powerful state governor. He expects a peaceful reunion, never imagining that his journey home will put him in the path of two people determined to destroy him.

On the interstate, Police Chief Gavin and his sister Vanessa stop Arthur and launch a vicious attack. Their real motive is far darker than a simple roadside confrontation—they are desperate to hide their connections to a criminal organization and recover financial ledgers that could expose them.

Arthur is robbed of his identity as the pair destroy his identification documents and even the photograph of his late mother. They then leave him badly beaten, believing the evidence they've created will make it impossible for anyone to discover who he really is.

But they have made one critical mistake.

Eleanor learns what has happened and rushes to the scene. As Arthur lies on the verge of death, she arrives just in time to confront his attackers and reveal the truth about the man they thought they could erase.

They believed they had beaten an ordinary traveler.

They are about to discover that their victim is a highly decorated former Navy admiral—and that attacking him may have exposed everything they were trying to hide.
